Current Sprout Recall

From the FDA web site, http://www.fda.gov/consumer/updates/sprouts040909.html: "On April 9, 2009, Amalgamated Produce, Inc. (API), Bridgeport, CT., announced that it is voluntarily recalling certain brands of sprouts due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a foodborne pathogen that can cause serious illness and death."

Jonathan's Sprouts has been informed that Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) may have been found in the facility in CT where the recalled product is produced. No local, State, or Federal regulatory authority has suggested any connection between Jonathan's product and this recall.  Although Jonathan's shares our market area with the implicated company, no facilities, or seed lots, or any part of the production process are used by both companies, and so there is no reason to be concerned about the safety of Jonathan's products.

We have reason to believe that API is voluntarily taking all appropriate steps to protect the public health, and we hope that they can identify and address whatever factors contributed to this recall.

Please feel free to call with any questions.
