History

 New England's Pioneer Sprout Company

We're the oldest and the best with an unsurpassed reputation for quality, service and dependability. Since March 17, 1976 we have built our reputation through continued personal contact with our customers, standing steadfastly behind our quality products and offering support and education.

Three friends, Bob Sanderson, Barbara Brewster and Jim Bunker, started Jonathan's Sprouts in an old New England Barn on the top of a hill, with a few alfalfa seeds and a vision of growing and selling good, healthy, and locally grown produce year-round.

Success

Over the next 32 years, Jonathan's Sprouts grew from 17 bags of alfalfa sprouts a week, to selling an average of 5000 cases, or 20 tons, of more than 20 products weekly. In 1991, we began supplying local supermarkets with other organically grown produce from our neighbors in New England. Jonathan's Organic was soon buying organic produce from farmers across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, South America and South Africa.

In 1993, Jonathan's Organic purchased a warehouse and installed state of the art temperature and humidity controlled refrigeration. Jonathan's Organic works directly with farmers all over the world to import the finest quality organic produce and to help growers distribute their products worldwide. All produce is fully certified as organically grown to official USDA and international standards.

In 2002, Jonathan's became certified as a Fair Trade company. We now import and sell Fair Trade bananas, grapes and mangoes.
